Lung cancer is one of three types Cancer is the most common and the leading cause of death due to cancer globally. According to the World Health Organization's GLOBOCAN 2022 statistics (IARC), lung cancer ranks third in new incidence with 2.5 million cases (accounting for 11.6% of all new cancer cases), but is the leading cause of death due to cancer with about 1.8 million deaths (18.7% of total cancer deaths). Vietnam will record about 26,262 new cases of lung cancer in 2022, ranking second after liver cancer in terms of incidence. The death rate from lung cancer in Vietnam is 23,797 cases, accounting for more than 19% of total cancer deaths, ranking first among all types of cancer. Lung cancer is mainly found in older people (over 60 years old) and is mostly detected in advanced stages or has metastasized to distant places, making treatment difficult.
