Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy Colonoscopy is a procedure used by doctors to observe the internal organs. in the colon using a colonoscope -  a long, soft tube, about 1 finger wide with a light and small camera attached at the end. The endoscope is inserted through the anus into the rectum and colon. Special instruments may be inserted through the colonoscope to biopsy or remove any suspicious lesions such as polyps, as needed.

(Note: This procedure is different from virtual colonoscopy (also known is CT colonography), a type of computed tomography scan.)
